He knows your every wound, He knows every ache of your heart, and He wants to encounter you — all of you.

I really love the photo the Holy Spirit inspired for the "Sacred Wounds" book cover because its many details tell of the Goodness of the Lord, the One who desires to draw near to you.

// Jesus is barefoot //

​

Like Moses in the Old Testament, who removed his sandals as he approached Yahweh in the burning bush because he was treading on holy ground. In the same way, Jesus removes His sandals before entering into the holy land of your wounded heart.

​

// Jesus is stepping toward the reader //

​

Like the feet in the Divine Mercy imagine and the disposition of the Prodigal Son’s Father. In this moment, He is already seeking you out.

​

// you are not eye level with Jesus //

​

In the poverty of your wounds, you are on the ground in humility, and He meets you right where you are.

​

// Jesus' face is not yet revealed //

​

You must enter in to discover how He sees you.

​

But I imagine Him totally attuned to the nuances of your heart and your story. I also imagine Him beaming, joyfully anticipating the intimacy that is about to unfold between the two of you.

​

And finally, when I saw this photo it reminded me of my encounter with Jesus in the desolate valley of my own heart. And I had always imagined that valley being super dark and scary and creepy.

But when I came across this photo I thought, “Lord, this is much more hopeful than I thought it would be." And He said, “Yes, it is…

// the difficult situations I permit in your life are always more hopeful than you think they will be // "

​

All I know is that four years ago when I started this book, the Lord had you in mind. And He hasn’t stopped noticing you.
